The Holy Bible on which George Washington placed his hands to take his first presidential oath of office in 1789 will be displayed by a delegation from St. John’s Lodge 1 of New York City, hosted by Philipstown Lodge 236. Read more about that inauguration here.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DRANK HERE—Gen. Washington visited this site in Cold Spring during the Revolution, drank the water, and named this tributary of the Hudson River ‘Cold Spring,’ which later became the name of the village itself.

Washington has a connection to Cold Spring, having named the body of water that gave the village its name.

For about twenty-five years, one of my favorite things in life was taking in the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival at Boscobel, and visiting Cold Spring—and sometimes West Point—to round out the day. Always figured I could live up there, but it isn’t affordable. Beautiful part of the state though, replete with lodges in the area.
