‘2016 Rose+Croix Journal is out’

Of the various periodicals disseminated by the Rosicrucian Order, that with the most substantial and wide-reaching content is the annually published Rose+Croix Journal, the 2016 issue of which is now out. From the publicity:

The Rose+Croix Journal editorial board and staff are pleased to announce the publication of our 2016 issue, now available.

Featuring humanities, liberal arts, and scientific papers on topics of interest to Rosicrucians, the Journal continues the spirit of free philosophic inquiry that characterized the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, prominent figures in which included Rosicrucians. Now entering its fourteenth year, the Journal has established itself as a source of philosophic and esoteric literature and has recently been added to the Library of Congress database.

This volume’s papers include:

  • “The Roots of a Science of Consciousness in Hermetic Alchemy” by Dennis William Hauck
  • “The Use of Virtual Reality as a Meditative Neurotechnology (A Pilot Study)” by Ranjie Singh, Paula Rayo, and K. Nirvana Singh
  • “The Perfect Fifth: The Science and Alchemy of Sound” by John Beaulieu
  • “The Pattern that Connects” by Eleanor D. MacGregor

Our “currents” section contribution, “The Scientific Method and Psi Research,” co-authored by seven fratres and sorores (Pat Downes, Shelley Higgins, Frank Hutchinson, Allen Jackson, Sara Petty, Othel Rolle, and Ranjie Singh), invites readers to share their thoughts on the “scientific method after next” and the research protocols that it will demand. Comments will be forwarded to the emerging standards/research team, and academic level commentary will be posted on the Rose+Croix Journal website at the mutual discretion of the commentator and the Grand Lodge. Future editions of the Journal may offer a commentary link for all papers.

Journals such as ours are possible only because of the labors of our authors and our all-volunteer editors (47) and staff. They don’t “just happen.”

Special thanks to our “back office” volunteer staff: the copyedit team (Kristin Pfanku, Helen Heightsman Gordon, and Shelley Higgins) and title/abstract translation team (Alexis Bulgari, Aicy Karbstein, Anne-Marie Kritzler, Patricia Mel-Gach, Feliciano Orozco Olague, and Wendy Keslick) who serve in a vital, but often invisible, capacity.

We believe that this issue and our archival issues will enrich your Rosicrucian experience substantially.

‘Alchemy exhibit on the Summer Solstice’

Courtesy Rosicrucian Alchemy Museum

The Rosicrucian Order is constructing its Alchemy Museum, to be the first of its kind in the United States. Located at Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California, the two-story structure is being built amid the Order’s Egyptian Museum and Alchemical Herb Garden. It will feature a fully equipped laboratory and an auditorium for classes in both operative and spiritual alchemy.

In the meantime, the Order is four weeks away from opening an Alchemy exhibit in the Egyptian Museum. Just in time for the solstice, the exhibit will open Saturday, June 20. A dedication ceremony will be held at six o’clock. On Sunday the 21st, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dennis William Hauck will lead a workshop. And at 7:30, the Order will host its annual Summer Solstice Ceremony.

From the publicity:

All Day Alchemy Workshop
with Dennis William Hauck

Sunday, June 21, 2015
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Spend the day with one of the world’s few practicing alchemists, and probe the intertwined mysteries of mind and matter. Learn how to use the alchemists’ secret formulae in practical work on all levels of body, mind, and spirit. Resonate with the magical imagery of the alchemists’ drawings, harness the archetypal power of the elements, and experience alchemical change within your own being, as you progress through each of the operations of transformation.

The alchemists not only tried to change base metals into gold, but also to rejuvenate their bodies, integrate their personalities, and perfect the very essence of their souls. Although they spoke of furnaces, retorts, and chemicals, they were really talking about changes taking place within themselves. In this unique and inspiring workshop, the secret principles of this ancient art will be revealed using the alchemists’ own writings, drawings, and meditations.

Dennis William Hauck is known for his ability to present these teachings in a way that comes alive in people. While studying for his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Vienna, he completed a three-year apprenticeship in alchemy and was later initiated into a variety of Hermetic traditions in Europe, Egypt, and the United States. He has since translated several old manuscripts and written a number of bestselling books on alchemy, including The Emerald Tablet: Alchemy for Personal Transformation, Sorcerer’s Stone: A Beginner’s Guide to Alchemy, Secret of the Emerald Tablet, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Alchemy. More info on the lecturer here.

In preparing to complete the Alchemy Museum, the Rosicrucian Order welcomes some donations. Click here to see how you might assist.

In other news, the new issue of Rose Croix Journal is available. Issue No. 10 features “liberal arts papers as well as scientific papers on topics of interest to Rosicrucians, including a paper summarizing the findings of a recent Sixth Degree Research Team project, the Journal continues the spirit of free philosophic inquiry that characterized the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, prominent figures in which included Rosicrucians.”

The cover art of the 2014 issue of Rose Croix Journal shows a
colorful version of 'The Temple of the Rosy Cross,' an image
dating to 1618 that bursts with symbolism and messages.

“Now entering its twelfth year, the Journal has established itself as a source of philosophic and esoteric literature, having recently been nominated for inclusion in a database used by research libraries across the globe,” according to the Rosicrucian Order. “Another point of interest: our team of 44 editors and staff is among the largest volunteer teams in the recent history of the Order.”

‘Journey to the Source of Ancient Wisdom’

More news from the aptly dubbed Golden State. Again, far outside my flight plan but must be shared here. From the Rosicrucian Order’s publicity:

Join practicing alchemist Dennis William Hauck

All proceeds go to benefit the Alchemy Museum
being built at Rosicrucian Park.

May 24-26
Rosicrucian Park
San Jose, California

Alchemy is based on ancient Hermetic teachings that were meant to be experienced directly in an initiatory environment. True alchemy is neither an intellectual pursuit nor a measure of knowledge, but is a secret fire that ignites passion and inspiration in all those who possess it. That fire can be passed only in living concepts grasped by both heart and mind to create a new state of consciousness Egyptians called “Intelligence of the Heart.” This process is part of the Underground Stream of perennial wisdom that still flows into our modern era.

The most powerful rendering of the ancient wisdom is in the intuitive writings, coded ciphers, and symbolic imagery of the alchemists. Their practical approach to esoteric energies created a powerful spiritual technology that combined introspection, meditation, and prayer with laboratory demonstrations. Their tireless efforts to unite soul and spirit – the inner and outer worlds – exposed the deep connection between mind and matter that science is just beginning to explore.

This three-day intensive, multimedia workshop focuses on the advanced teachings of alchemy. Using the operations of alchemy, secret Hermetic techniques, activated symbology, and guided meditations; participants will journey through the stages of purification and empowerment that lead to the transpersonal source that is the Philosopher’s Stone.

Tools include a full-color bound textbook of meditative drawings, process handouts and charts, and audio recordings. Selected eBooks will be sent to participants to help them prepare for the workshop. Everyone will also receive personalized graphs showing the relative power of the metals (planetary archetypes) in their astrological signatures. This information will guide their work to transmute the inner metals into a more resilient golden temperament.

He has since translated several old manuscripts and authored a number of bestselling books on alchemy, including The Emerald Tablet: Alchemy for Personal Transformation, The Secret of the Emerald Tablet, Sorcerer’s Stone: A Beginner’s Guide to Alchemy, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Alchemy.

The sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a break from noon to 2 for Council of Solace and lunch each day.

The cost is $300 per person for AMORC members, and $350 per person for non-member guests. Click here to register.

All proceeds will go toward the Alchemy Museum being built at Rosicrucian Park.

Logistics: Many visitors to Rosicrucian Park enjoy staying at the Arena Hotel on The Alameda, which is within walking distance of the Park and right across the street from the train station where both Amtrak and Caltrain make stops. The best airport to fly into is San Jose International Airport, about 10 to 15 minutes from Rosicrucian Park and the recommended hotel.
