When the Grand Lodge of Missouri meets next month, the local research lodge will host its customary Truman Lecture and Breakfast, and the speaker will be W. Patrick Craddock. If you are in the area and have not heard “Admit Him If Properly Clothed,” I recommend making the effort to attend. From the publicity:

‘Moises to deliver the Truman Lecture’

Missouri Lodge of Research’s Truman Lecture Series will continue as scheduled, but with this difference: It will be shown online.

Moises Gomez, once and future Grand Historian of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey, will present his well traveled “Freemasonry and the Underground Railroad” on Saturday, May 16 at noon Central Time.

There is no cost to join in, but it will be carried via Zoom, so you’ll need to have an account set up, and you also will register here. From the publicity:

Freemasonry and
the Underground Railroad

Once again, many Freemasons stepped in and gave of themselves with considerable risk to do what was right. Slavery is a significant part of American history, and led to the Civil War that turned brother against brother, and culminated in voting rights, civil rights, and the end of segregation in America.

This is a powerful lecture which deals in Toleration, Equality, Justice, Truth, Sacrifice, Acceptance, and Respect for others.

Open to all Master Masons, family and friends.

“The time is right to always
do what is right.”

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Research Lodge was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Missouri, AF&AM on September 30, 1941 under the direction of MW Harry S Truman for the purpose of gathering and disseminating historical information pertaining to the origin and development of Freemasonry and to its members who have contributed to its growth and development.

One of the annual events that the Missouri Lodge of Research sponsors is the Truman Lecture, which has hosted a number of notable Masons over the years on a variety of topics. Most remarkable about the series is that it represents Freemasonry in action, the act of presenting to its membership a breadth of knowledge and information by some of the most notable speakers in the contemporary craft.

Membership in MOLoR is open to any Master Mason in or out of the state of Missouri. In-state members may participate as active members, with access to lectures and events in the state. Out-of-state correspondent members receive MoLAR’s quarterly newsletter, an annual book selection published by the Lodge of Research, and all of their other correspondence materials.

‘Bridegroom to present Spring 2018 Truman Lecture’

John Bridegroom
I love seeing friends make the rounds on the national Masonic speaking circuit, so I’m happy to see the news of Bro. John Bridegroom being chosen to deliver the Spring 2018 Truman Lecture in Missouri. You may know John from his work as proprietor of The Masters Craft, maker of outstanding Masonic regalia, jewels, and other finely crafted items. And, if you’re a reader of The Journal of the Masonic Society, the lively layout and design of the magazine is John’s handiwork.

From the publicity:

Please join the Missouri Lodge of Research and the Missouri York Rite on June 9 at noon at the Captiol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Jefferson City as we present our Spring 2018 Truman Lecture Series guest, Bro. John A. Bridegroom, as he presents a talk on the Arts and Crafts of Freemasonry. This lecture will present an introspective look at the art of our jewels and regalia, as well as other aspects of our fraternity, and why we should embrace them. Tickets for this lunch and lecture, open to the public, cost $35 per person. Click here.

‘Truman on Truman’

Missouri Lodge of Research will celebrate its 75th anniversary later this spring, in part, with its annual Truman Lecture. This year, the keynote speaker will be Bro. Clifton Truman Daniel, the eldest grandson of Harry S Truman, presenting “Harry S Truman: the Character of a Freemason.” Truman of course was the 33rd President of the United States and Grand Master of Masons of Missouri.

The day also will include a talk by Alex Burden, Executive Director of the Truman Library Institute, and a display of the 33° rings worn by Truman and by Order of DeMolay founder Frank S. Land.

This will take place Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Harry S Truman Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri. Open to Masons and friends. Tickets, at $35 each, are available here, and grant full-day admission to the Truman Library. A reception will follow the lecture.

‘Spring 2013 Truman Lecture’

This just in from Bro. Aaron: The Spring 2013 Truman Lecture, hosted by Missouri Lodge of Research, will take place Saturday, May 4 at noon at the Grand Lodge of Missouri headquarters in Columbia. Bro. Alton Roundtree will speak on the history and development of Prince Hall Freemasonry, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Brethren, their ladies, and guests are welcome.

Tickets, at $20 each for lunch and the lecture, are available here. This is far outside the Magpie Mason’s regular orbit, so unfortunately I won’t see you there, but having heard Bro. Alton speak on this subject before, I promise it is worth your time. The history of Prince Hall Masonry can be vexing, so it is best to have a guide like Bro. Roundtree.
