‘The Imperfect Storm at Cooperstown’

     

The lodge in Cooperstown will host a historian’s talk on the “Morgan Affair” Tuesday.

Yesterday was the 200th anniversary of the arrest of William Morgan at Batavia; today is the bicentenary of Morgan’s seeming disappearance. That mystery—an alleged, but unproven murder—precipitated a scandal that shamed our fraternity almost to oblivion, and echoes of suspicion are heard even today. From the publicity:

Join us on this somber occasion as we are joined by Steven L. Harrison from Missouri as he discusses the events that unfolded in Western New York during September of 1826 and beyond.

Members are encouraged to read Bro. Harrison’s book The Imperfect Storm before this meeting if possible. Two copies that may be borrowed are in the lodge library.

This event is open to all Freemasons in good standing in the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York and jurisdictions in amity. This event is not open to the public.
