‘More Morgan’

I am happy to see the attention paid to the bicentennial anniversary of the “Morgan Affair.” While it’s nothing to celebrate, it is a significant chapter of Masonic history. It is not a stretch to say the fraternity we support today (forthrightly public, conspicuously philanthropic, et al.) is the product of the antimasonic panic that arose after the disappearance of William Morgan in Upstate New York on September 12, 1826.

Saturday, the Mother Supreme Council uploaded a great documentary video on this subject. Having watched this, I feel better now about my presentation in lodge that day because the real historians discuss the points I also recounted, although I didn’t go into Thurlow Weed, and I omitted that Honduras angle.
