‘FT approaches UGLE’s membership concerns’

Charlie Bibby/Financial Times
W. Bro. Nando Caicedo strikes a pose, as before in the Metro story last week, at Freemasons’ Hall. He appears today in the Financial Times.

Not to convert The Magpie Mason into an echo of the UGLE’s earned media, but the Financial Times today, like Metro last Tuesday, published a UK Society feature article about the English Craft’s thoughts on membership.

Reporter Josh Gabert-Doyon, covers the familiar territory of Freemasonry consisting of older men with gray hair, wearing mysterious regalia, shouldering controversies, supporting charities, and desiring to be succeeded in the fraternity (or, as our writer phrases it, “the so-called ‘fraternity’”) by younger men.

And a sloppy error slipped in: women are admitted to UGLE!

Grand Secretary Adrian Marsh is quoted. I was surprised to see Bro. Mitchell Bryan and Bro. Nando Caicedo featured in photos, as they were last week in Metro. Maybe they are part of the Grand Lodge’s communications team.
